Pete and I were very pleased and very proud to have taught Josh Page from when he first started playing through until he was 13yrs old – we were both very pleased when he then soon went on to win the Junior Nationals under 16yrs in August 2011 and is now back currently training full time at the JTC academy based back here at the Virgin Active Club, Northwood.
Middlesex Tennis Singles League Summer Season
Entries are now being accepted for the Summer Season of the Middlesex Tennis Singles League.
To enter go to www.tennisjeannie.com and click on “Middlesex Singles League” under Accepting Entries on the home page.
How the Singles League works:
You will be allocated to a box with other players who have the same rating and are in the same age group. So all wins are “Qualifying Wins”.
Results are uploaded onto the LTA database on a regular basis.
For players with a Rating of 10.2 – 9.1 this means you only have to win 4 matches to be promoted to the next Rating Band. Results for higher rated players (8.2 / 8.1) will be processed by the LTA at the defined “Ratings Run” dates.
Should your Rating change you will be moved to a new box so you can continue to progress through the ratings bands; you will not be stuck in an inappropriate box for the rest of the Season.
You are not obliged to play all opponents in your box; play as many or as few matches as is convenient to you.
Arranging Matches
Tennis Jeannie will help you to arrange your matches; for example you can advertise the dates and times when you are available to play matches; send match invites and Jeannie will manage the responses so you get to play on dates and at times that are convenient to you. Player telephone contact details are made available to the other players in the same box so if you prefer you can call or text opponents.
You can invite an opponent to play at your home venue; you can offer to travel to your opponent’s home venue or you can play at a neutral venue such as a park court or indoor pay and play centre. The tournament rules defines how costs are shared.
New for the Summer Season
The target is to have boxes of 10 players. Where we have a large entry for a Rating / Age Group the player pool will be divided on a geographic basis so as to minimise travel time.
Previously boxes frequently had more than 20 players but spread all across London.
Congratulations to Jack MacFarlane
Congratulations to Jack MacFarlane for again winning the 2013 Men’s Winter Club Tournament, here at Virgin Active Club, Northwood, having played against Joel Ostwind who he beat 6-1 / 6-1. In addition, Jack teamed up with James Bruce to win the Men’s Doubles final to add to the earlier singles win.
It is great for all the players at the Club, that Jack supports playing in these club events – as he has just seen his national ranking reach no 14 for under 16yrs . This achievement qualifies him for the UK under 16yrs Winter Indoor series event, which is only available for the top 16 players in the country.
These achievements follow on from Jack winning the Under 14yrs Boys singles in the Middlesex County Closed Championships last Summer – which meant I had to fulfil my promise I made to him way back when he was 10 – that I would get him a racquet of his choice when he won this event – which I felt was only a matter of time – in fact he nearly won the under 12yrs only losing in a close fought final 2 years ago. In recognition for his fantastic achievement – I presented him with his brand new racquet here at the club just after Christmas, after he decided which racquet to play with in 2013 having now been sponsored by Head UK.
Jack is a great ambassador for the sport and displays the huge commitment and dedication that is required to become a National level tennis player – I could see this passion and drive when I started teaching him when he was 6 years old and his professional approach has continued relentlessly through my 6 years with him and beyond when he joined a National HPC academy when he was 13yrs old – it’s great to see him back here now playing in our new JTC tennis academy – onwards and upwards Jack !!
