“Not having played tennis with any consistency since my school days back in the 70’s, re learning my tennis skills with Steve has been a revelation. Since taking up coaching with Steve twelve months ago, I have enjoyed every minute and in a short time, he improved my game by focusing on form and technique.” It’s refreshing to work with a tennis coaching professional who really understands, and is able to convey, the technical aspects of an effective stroke and I have developed a great deal more confidence with the strategy of the game and improved the power behind the stroke. I am hoping to join a ‘box league’ soon as my confidence has grown – I would not have considered that when I first started. Steve is excellent value and is good fun“ – Jacqui Scott
“Having not played for several years it was refreshing to meet a coach like Steve, who not only got my game going again but got me playing better tennis than I ever had!!! He has a great positive nature and is a coach that cares about his results – well recommended” – Simon Chaplin
“Steve Butcher is a friendly, experienced and skilled tennis coach who tailors his lessons to meet your needs. Whatever your level, Steve knows enough drills and exercises to keep learning to play tennis fresh and fun. He has the ability to break-down movements and make them easy to follow, helping you to improve your serve and strokes” – Baraka Khan
“Steve I played a match last night and I definately noticed the difference in my game after just the 2 lessons I have had so far. It felt very good – many thanks” – Sadik Merali
Up into box 10 – Thanks again for all the help getting me there – Mark Hobden
Group Coaching
The group sessions have been great – fun to participate in , a great group of people and the ability to mix technical learning with matchplay tactics at doubles has been excellent – Steve Dale
The adult tennis class has had positive influence on me wanting to play tennis. It was a very comfortable environment to learn the sport with people of similar ability. The environment was also not intimidating which allowed for ease of play. – Abolaji Tokuta
I have attended Steve’s tennis coaching sessions for almost a year having never played before. My main objective was to be able to play with my children but I have slowly realised as time moves on that they are getting much better so I need to continue improving and trying to keep up. From initially being very reluctant to participating in games and practically tuning my back on the ball anytime it came remotely close to my side of the court I am now on occasion capable of winning some games. I have been surprised at the level of co-ordination that tennis requires, for me it has therefore been essential to have the support and direction of Steve, he has throughout the last year remained forever patient, never tiring of repeating the same messages until eventually my skills improve. Learning a new skill can be difficult and frustrating, however, throughout the journey Steve continues to motivate and encourage without which I may have given up long before now! – Martina McGrath
I would just like to say that I enjoy coming to playing tennis at The Riverside. I have learnt about strokes, grip, returning from a ball machine and to enjoy tennis ; all at a great facility, thankyou Mark Baldwin
I have learnt a lot during my lessons and think this is a fantastic idea – Jackie Ngu
Having not played tennis for some years, and having never learned properly, I decided to join the Riverside as a tennis member at the age of 64 . The group sessions started just as I joined, and it was very helpful to have a gentle and supportive introduction with an experienced coach. My enthusiasm has encouraged me to take individual lessons, and check out my progress in the group sessions. All in all very worthwhile. JP
“It feels nice to practice tennis with people at your level. You don’t feel bad for your mistakes and the group helps you progress a lot. The social side it’s also really important: learning together makes it more fun” Silvia Benedetto
I’ve really loved going to the tennis groups with Steve. I can see that I’ve improved a lot and it’s great having the flexibility of different classes on different days. The tennis classes were the main reason that I joined Riverside and it was definitely the right decision. Moira McDougall
“The sessions have been a great way for me to get back into the spirit of the game and start taming the wayward shots. They have been a great chance to spend a lot of time on the court playing and improving ” Steve Lander
